FAQs

Thank you for your interest in the DHL Scholars Program. Here are some common questions we receive from applicants, donors, and volunteers. If you can’t find the answers to your question in the FAQ, contact us.

I’m an applicant and I have a question.

  • In order to apply, you must meet our eligibility criteria and create a free CommunityForce account to complete and submit an application. Our application process through the CommunityForce application will provide instructions on the information required to be submitted and the submission deadline. To apply, please click here.

  • Letters can come from anyone you feel is appropriate, but in the past, letters have typically come from professors, employers, etc.

  • Within the CommunityForce application, you will be able to send a request to your recommenders for a letter of recommendation. Once you’ve sent a request for a letter of recommendation on CommunityForce, your recommender will receive an email from Admin@communityforce.com instructing them on how to submit their letter on the CommunityForce website.

Please note that applicants will not be able to upload the letter of recommendations themselves. To check whether or not your recommender has uploaded the letter, please go to the dashboard within your CommunityForce account to check on the status. You are solely responsible for following up with your recommenders and submitting your completed application before the stated submission deadline.

  • We request that all applicants and their recommenders use the CommunityForce application to submit the letters of recommendation. Please see the above FAQ on “How should my recommenders submit letters of recommendation?” for more information. Should you have any questions or issues, please contact applications.donhliuscholars@gmail.com.

  • The letter of recommendation should be tailored for the DHL Scholars Program application.

  • We do require tax returns to be submitted because a requirement for the scholarship is the need for financial assistance. If you cannot obtain your family’s tax return as part of your application materials, then you will not be considered eligible for the DHL Program Scholarship.

  • One of our criteria for eligibility is that the applicant "be enrolled full-time as a 1L in a J.D. program at an ABA-accredited and approved law school in the US." If you have deferred, then you would not meet this criterion and should apply next year instead.

  • Yes, unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

  • All applicants who advance as finalists will be notified via email to submit additional materials and informed of dates for a phone interview by mid-to-late December in the application year.

  • Each season, the new Don H. Liu Scholars will be notified via email by mid-January.
