Our History

Don H. Liu is the inspiration behind our organization. As the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal and Risk Officer for Target and a current DHL board member, Don has mentored a generation of AAPI attorneys and offered unwavering support for the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), among other AAPI organizations. Don’s commitment to the advancement of AAPI attorneys into leadership positions inspired attorneys Jean Lee and Mike Huang to establish the Don H. Liu Scholars Program in 2014.

In its inaugural year, DHL named its first two Scholars, both of whom were first-generation AAPI law students. Each Scholar received a $15,000 law school scholarship and mentorship through DHL both during and after law school.

Each year since, DHL awards scholarships to, offers mentoring for, and builds community with selected AAPI Scholars who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential.
